This was the first book I reviewed for my newsletter. I started with Nora Ephron — thank God I started with Nora Ephron. She writes brilliantly. Again, no knowledge of literature to back up my statements but for someone like me – easily bored but im-pressed by very little – it’s perfect. That’s not to say she’s not impressive.
Anyways, the book is about Rachel’s divorce. Well it’s about a cookbook writer, and her thought sand feelings about her husband cheating on her while she is seven months pregnant. I know I saidI asked for short and sweet books, and divorce is not sweet, but the book is really funny.
I know lots of people hate books written in the 1st person, but I loved it in this book. It kind of jumped around in time, like how people often start stories in the middle, remember some context is needed and then go way too far back. It was nice that she picked out specific moments from their marriage that stuck in her mind. Im sure that happens to everyone. I often think about Michelle’s year 8 fixation with the word gullible. To other people it probably doesn’t stick out as a moment which describes her best. But it sticks out to me.
Other fun things include: Rachel is Jewish (which means there was lots of relatable content for me- particulary liked the explanation of the Jewish Prince for you goys out there) and the book is also filled with recipes from Rachel’s cookbook! A very sweet addition.
