I was first tempted to buy this when I first saw the book with Carlotta in Daunt Books. But I didn’t go for it. Mostly because I was in desperate need of the loo at the time. I went back to buy it on a separate occasion because I saw there was a Lily Allen quote on it saying it’s a good book. And I am easily persuadable. When I eventually picked this up, I already loved Nora Ephron – from having read and adored Heartburn – so I wanted another book. Non-fiction this time. But I’ve read books like this before. The first one I can remember was Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please” when I was about 12. Light feminism (in intensity and skin colour). There’s always some mention of body fat and aging. Or more generally the problems people have with women getting older. I guess it’s relatable. I’d give this to my mum – along with a copy of heartburn. Nothing false said. Nora’s a good writer so it wasn’t boring. She’s funny. And the stories used to make these points weren’t boring. They were funny. The last was the best piece of the collection.
