mm. hmmm. I feel quite bad because, I feel I’m going to be quite mean. Good things first. The writing is stunning. The description made me feel like the cat was next to me scratching at my knees. Same with the relationships between the cat and the wife and husband. However. HMM. I had to give up on the book — I didn’t finish it. The plot just wasn’t helping me get from one page to the next. Given it was such a short read I wasn’t far from the end. But I just wasn’t ever picking the book up. I guess don’t need to justify myself. But I will. I was on a roll reading. I’d started with Heartburn, Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Convenience Store Woman, I Feel Bad about My Neck — and I didn’t want to fail and stop reading. I’d already gotten halfway through my first email review. Failure is sad. And I choose the small failure of giving up on this book over the big one of cutting my reading era short. So: write the newsletter but don’t finish the book. I may pick it up again someday but realistically I think I’ve put it down for good. Oh well. Pick your battles.
