A young woman has an affair with an older rich white married man – a tale as old as time – but this is different. The white suburban wife decides to take her successor in to her own home, in order to help their adopted black daughter fit into their neighbourhood. Being a black woman herself, the protagonist is given room and board to befriend and teach their daughter. It’s about race, art, and um human dissection.
This book was so completely different to what I expected. It’s so… delirious. It’s like intrusive thoughts come to life! The protagonist just can’t help herself from intruding in small innocuous confused ways in the couple’s life. She haunts, she spies, she is invited in but is still watching from the wings.
