up at the villa

Period piece – set in the … hm. Cars are in existence but I’d say they’re still relatively new. The 30s? From my limited memory I think it’s a widower who goes to stay …up at a villa in Italy (of course why I picked up the book!), and gets herself into a bit of a sticky situation when she accidentally finds herself the object of a crazy man’s obsessive love. In her time of need, she reluctantly turns to the village hottie (enemies to lovers etc).

If I barely remember a book – does it mean that it was bad? I don’t think so!

This was what Clement Glenneth Paltrow Dean would refer to as “a romp”.

Usually, a C.G.P.D certified romp refers to media that is short, sweet, and mildly raunchy. Except when it comes to Nicole Kidman, in which a 3-hour exemption clause is found for the “romp” that is the movie Australia.

So – other attributes that make this qualify for romp status:

  • Easy to enjoy: Check!
  • Intellectually void: Check! (Mostly – it’s not groundbreaking by any means)
  • Prissy/entitled – and rightly so – female lead: Check!
  • Hot hunk (forbidden love undertones): Check!
